Man, 20, Killed In Single-Vehicle Crash In Oceanside

The 20-year-old victim was driving northbound on Interstate 5 when his car went down an embankment and rolled over.

A young man died Wednesday when his car went down a freeway embankment and rolled over in Oceanside.

The 20-year-old victim was driving his green Nissan Altima northbound in the No. 3 lane on Interstate 5 at about 6:15 a.m. Wednesday when he veered across the remaining northbound lanes of traffic, which caused his car to travel down an embankment and roll over, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP, the Oceanside Police Department and the Oceanside Fire Department responded to the accident and attempted to assist the driver, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP.

It was unclear why the vehicle veered across the roadway, but drugs and/or alcohol were not suspected to be the cause of the fatal crash, according to authorities.

The investigation was ongoing, and officials urged anyone with information about the accident to contact the Oceanside-area CHP office at 760- 643-3400.
