Man Fatally Shot During Fight In Ocean Beach; Suspect At Large
Detectives were working to process evidence, interview witnesses, and canvas the area for security video.
SAN DIEGO, CA — Police Thursday sought to identify a man who shot and killed another man during a late-night fight in Ocean Beach.
The fatal shooting happened shortly before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 5000 block of Newport Avenue, according to the San Diego Police Department.
The victim died at the scene from at least one gunshot wound to his upper body, police Lt. Lou Maggi said. His identity was not released.

"Investigators have learned the (victim) was involved in a confrontation with two men in a parking lot," Maggi said. "The victim punched one of the men, at which time the second man produced a handgun and shot (him)."
The shooter and his companion, both described as white men, fled to the west down a nearby alley, then to the north toward Santa Monica Avenue, Maggi said.
