Man Found Beaten To Death In Fallbrook; Suspect In Custody

SAN DIEGO, CA — Authorities Monday identified a man found beaten to death last week in Fallbrook.

Patrol personnel responding to a call for assistance found 38-year-old Douglas Hardy dead about 4:30 p.m. Friday at a hotel in the 1600 block of South Mission Road, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

Following a foot chase, deputies arrested the suspected assailant, 35-year-old parolee Brian Francis Zielinski, Lt. Joseph Jarjura said.

Zielinski was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of murder. He was being held without bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

The county Medical Examiner's Office has determined that Hardy died of blunt-force injuries inflicted by another person.

Officials have released no suspected motive for the alleged slaying and have not disclosed the relationship, if any, between the suspect and victim.
