Man Killed In Apparent Shooting In City Heights Area Of San Diego

Police found the victim on the ground between two parked vehicles, authorities said.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A man was killed in an apparent shooting early Tuesday in the City Heights community of San Diego, authorities said.

A witness reported hearing a gunshot shortly before 3:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 4600 block of Olive Street in the Swan Canyon neighborhood, according to the San Diego Police Department.

"The witness looked outside and observed a man down in the street and another man wearing all black standing nearby," police Lt. Lou Maggi said.

Police found the victim on the ground between two parked vehicles, Maggi said. The man, who was in his 70s, died at the scene. His name was not immediately available.

Prior to the arrival of police, the suspect fled southbound on foot in an alley off 46th Street.

"Officers canvassed the nearby canyon and surrounding streets for the person in black but were not able to locate him," Maggi said. "Information is extremely limited at this time. Detectives are processing the scene for evidence, security footage, and witnesses."
