SAN DIEGO, CA -- Meals on Wheels San Diego County announced Tuesday it received a $4.5 million donation from longtime supporters of the McKinney Family. Nonprofit officials said the family's support began decades ago starting with Vi and Dan McKinney.

Today, their daughters, Norinne McKinney, Molly Schulze and Gayle Peterson have continued to support Meals on Wheels San Diego County, officials said.

In appreciation of the donation, the nonprofit will name its building on San Diego Avenue after the family.

“The senior population is growing exponentially, and the issues of hunger and isolation remain critical issues we are wrestling with," Debbie Case, president and CEO of the nonprofit, said. "This generous donation will allow us to answer the needs of seniors in the entire county, whether urban, suburban or rural. The McKinney family has stood by us through the decades and with these funds, will continue to do so for decades to come."

“It is so important for the community to support the needs of the seniors in San Diego. Food and human contact is such a basic need that makes a significant difference in aging well with dignity,” said Norinne McKinney.
