New $100 Million Passenger Screening Facility Opens At Cross Border Xpress

Bi-national leaders from San Diego County and Mexico Monday celebrated the opening of Tijuana International Airport’s new $100 million Cross Border Xpress passenger processing facility.

The 430,000-square-foot building expansion aims to reduce traveler wait times and expedite the transit process from San Diego to the Mexican airport.

The new facility increases security screening capacity by 75%, adding four new screening lines, according to CBX. The expansion is funded by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico, the operator of 12 airports in Mexico, including Abelardo L. Rodriguez Airport, which hosted the event.

“Today, more than 75% of nonstop international air travelers that come to San Diego arrive through Tijuana – Cross Border Xpress,” said Raul Revuelta CEO of GAP. “Our new facility will make crossing through the airport easier and will elevate the experience for all travelers using the sky bridge.”

In 2021, CBX had more than 2.7 million travelers and expect to reach 4 million this year, according to the land bridge operators.
