Plane With 6 People Aboard Crashes Off Coast Of Point Loma
Six people were on board the plane, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

SAN DIEGO, CA — Six people were on board a plane that crashed Sunday afternoon in the waters off the coast of Point Loma, authorities said.
A Cessna 414 went down around 12:45 p.m. about three miles west of Point Loma, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
Members of the Coast Guard and other agencies were searching for the plane and survivors. The Coast Guard was using an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter, a C-27 fixed-wing aircraft, a cutter boat and two response boats in its search.

The Phoenix-bound plane crashed shortly after takeoff from the San Diego International Airport, according to the Flight Safety Foundation website.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were investigating the crash. The FAA said the NSTB will lead the investigation.

It's the second time in less than a month that a plane has gone down in the San Diego region. In May, six people were killed when a Cessna 550 aircraft went down amid foggy conditions, striking a home and vehicles in a residential area in the Murphy Canyon community of San Diego.
