SAN DIEGO, CA — We've rounded up the stories you may have missed over the weekend to prepare you for the week ahead.
But before we jump into Southern California's top stories, residents should expect the "most significant heat wave of the summer," with much of Southern California under an extreme heat watch, according to the National Weather Service.
"High pressure will build this week, bringing a warming trend and less marine layer cloud cover," NWS San Diego forecasters wrote Monday. "Thursday through Saturday will be the hottest days. Monsoon moisture and the chance of showers and thunderstorms will increase, mainly over the mountains and deserts Thursday through at least Monday."

In other news, an armed man prompted a freeway shutdown; a small plane landed on a freeway; a home-invasion robbery sent one victim to a hospital; a mountain lion strolled into a home; a big rig car-carrier loaded with eight Teslas caused a hazardous fire; and a parent was arrested by ICE near an elementary school.
Plus, animal rights advocates are demanding Trader Joe's to stop purchasing chickens from Petaluma Poultry, a subsidiary of poultry giant Perdue Foods that they accuse of extreme animal cruelty, including boiling birds alive and leaving them without food or water. Trader Joe's, which is headquartered in Monrovia, had sought to ban protests inside and outside its 205 California stores, but a judge recently denied the bid to ban protests outside the stores.
