Police To Conduct DUI Checkpoint In North County
"Impaired driving continues to be a leading cause of vehicle crashes locally and nationwide," Interim Chief of Police Ryan Banks said.

ESCONDIDO, CA — Police will conduct a DUI checkpoint Friday night in San Diego's North County.
The checkpoint is scheduled from 4 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday at an undisclosed location in the city of Escondido, according to the Escondido Police Department. During the checkpoint, officers will look for signs that drivers are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
"Impaired driving continues to be a leading cause of vehicle crashes locally and nationwide," Interim Chief of Police Ryan Banks said. "Traffic safety is a priority for the Escondido Police Department. These types of patrols are an important component in our continuing efforts in enforcement, deterrence and education."

Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
