- A breakfast talk for foster sisters evolved into a leadership academy for girls of color. DETOUR, which stands for Depositing Empowerment Through Outreach & Urban Development, helps girls develop self-esteem, self-love, and self-empowerment. Tinesia Conwright’s goal is to make sure the girls have big sisters to help them through the challenges of life and home. “Detour is my love letter to the community,” said Conwright, executive director of DETOUR. The complex will remain affordable in the community of San Marcos for 99 years. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (Press Release Desk)
- There are many myths and urban legends about homelessness. People think that it could never happen to them. Some think that homeless individuals must have mental illness or must be addicted to drugs. Others think that the homeless want to live on the streets.
