SAN DIEGO, CA — We've rounded up the stories you may have missed over the weekend to prepare you for the week ahead.
But before we jump into Southern California's top stories, residents should expect a significant cooling trend this week, according to the National Weather Service.
"A low pressure system will gradually bring cooler weather this week and temperatures will be mostly below normal," NWS San Diego forecasters wrote Monday. "This system will also boost winds in parts of the mountains and deserts during afternoons and evenings. The marine layer will rebuild to provide increasing nocturnal low cloudiness west of the mountains."

In other news, an Amber Alert was issued after a 1-year-old was kidnapped in a Target parking lot; a 5-year-old on a scooter was struck by a suspected drunken driver; police sought additional victims after a man was arrested on suspicion of distributing child porn; two Rottweiler dogs attacked and killed a man; and two university libraries were evacuated after a bomb threat.
Plus, the California State Parks Foundation is asking Californians to track sightings of western monarch butterflies to help save the dwindling insect population. The California State Parks Foundation, a nonprofit that supports the state's park system through lobbying, fundraising, volunteering and programming, said that western monarch populations have plummeted in recent decades.
