San Diego-Based USS Higgins Fires 23 Missiles In Syria Attack

The destroyer fired from the North Arabian Gulf.

SAN DIEGO, CA -- A San Diego-based destroyer is taking part in attacks in Syria, days after President Donald Trump and ally countries announced retaliation against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for a chemical attack that killed women and children.

The Chicago Tribune reported USS Higgins was one of several destroyers to attack the Middle East country. The vessel "fired 23 Tomahawks from the North Arabian Gulf," the newspaper reported.

"Pentagon officials on Saturday said they faced little resistance to their targeted attack on what they said were three Syrian chemical weapons facilities," the Chicago Tribune reported. "Most of the Syrian countermeasures, including defensive ballistic missiles, were fired after U.S. and allied weapons hit their targets, Lieutenant General Kenneth McKenzie told reporters on Saturday."
