San Diego Man Arrested For Alleged NorCal Kidnapping

A man was arrested early Friday morning for reportedly kidnapping a person in Petaluma.

PETALUMA, CA -- A San Diego man was arrested early Friday morning for reportedly kidnapping a person in Northern California. Benjamin Sher, 28, of San Diego, was arrested after police said he kidnapped a victim then crashed into a tree while trying to get away.

Police responded to a report of a kidnapping at 2:40 a.m. Friday on North McDowell Boulevard. A witness told police Sher was in confrontation with the victim before he kidnapped the person, police said.

A few minutes after the initial report, the victim called 911 from a home on Western Avenue. While trying to get away from police, Sher crashed into a tree, allowing the victim to escape, police said.

Petaluma officers, with the help of the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department, found Sher around 3:43 a.m. and arrested him. He is being charged with kidnapping, felony assault and felony DUI.

Sher was booked at the Sonoma County Jail with a bail of $100,000.00.
