San Diego State Women's Lacrosse To Join Big 12 Conference

"We are excited to be joining the Big 12 as an affiliate member," head coach Kylee White said.

SAN DIEGO, CA — The San Diego State women's lacrosse team will join the Big 12 Conference as an affiliate member, it was announced Wednesday.

The Aztecs are one of six teams who will play in the Big 12 for its inaugural season of lacrosse for the 2024-25 campaign, joining Arizona State, Cincinnati, Colorado, Florida and UC Davis, a statement from SDSU read.

"We are excited to be joining the Big 12 as an affiliate member," head coach Kylee White said. "As we continue to build our brand, we're honored to represent the Big 12 in its first season of lacrosse next year."

The move continues the spread of SDSU sports across multiple conferences, including the Mountain West Conference and Pac-12 — part of a nationwide shift in conference alignments.
"We are looking forward to our new home for San Diego State lacrosse in the Big 12 Conference," said John David Wicker, SDSU director of athletics. "This gives our lacrosse program stability and a chance to fight for conference championships. This is an exciting time for SDSU athletics, Kylee and the rest of the coaching staff, and most importantly the student-athletes."

San Diego State is coming over from the Pac-12 Conference along with Arizona State, Colorado and UC Davis.

SDSU women's lacrosse was in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation from 2011, the program's inaugural year, until 2021. The Aztecs competed as an independent the last two seasons before joining the Pac-12 for the 2023-24 campaign.

The Aztecs' first Pac-12 game is March 17 against Arizona State at Snapdragon Stadium. San Diego State continues non-conference play at Denver on Sunday.

"We are excited to announce San Diego State as an affiliate member in lacrosse," said Dayna Scherf, Big 12 vice president for women's basketball and competition. "The addition of Aztec lacrosse supports the continued growth of women's sports across our conference, including the league's first lacrosse championship."

SDSU does not have an official men's lacrosse team, instead fielding a club team.
