  1. San Diegans need affordable housing. Now, the SD Board of Supervisors and the MTS have designated nine surplus properties for affordable housing. The 13 acres of land includes parcels in the College area, in Grantville, and in Escondido. Developers may pre-register by mail to present plans to build the affordable units on these properties. 2. After attending a pro-Ukraine protest in Balboa Park, Avi Schiffman was shaken. He wanted to do something to help. Schiffmann, a 19-year-old student at Harvard University, is good at coding. “I know how to make all these websites and apps and, you know, I felt that nobody was going to do it,” said Schiffmann, a San Diego resident. “So why don't I just do it? So, I made this website.” The website, “Ukraine Take Shelter,” unites refugees with hosts offering spare rooms. “It's like a public bulletin that you can bring with you no matter where you are," said Schiffmann. 3. If President Biden signs a $1.5 trillion spending plan next week, San Diego will get millions for infrastructure and other building projects. The Del Mar bluffs, UCSD, a 50-bed homeless shelter, the Bayshore Bikeway, and the wastewater infrastructure project are the projects that will benefit.
