- For many years, the Walton family of National City owned an organic farm and later donated it to the International Community Foundation in 2006. The only stipulation was that the farm must continue to be cultivated for the community. Today, Olivewood Gardens is thriving with 8 acres of organically grown produce. San Diego residents can take a class, plant a seed, and learn about how to start an organic garden at this garden as well as at others in San Diego. Find an organic garden near you. - Volunteer to make a difference in San Diego. Help the County create alternatives to incarceration and improve our justice system. The Alternatives to Incarceration project will recommend new ways to provide community and stakeholder input. The County needs to reduce jail populations while protecting residents by improving rehabilitation treatment. The group will meet monthly for one year. Community members are encouraged to join. - Walk in ART will return to Hillcrest next Thursday. Stroll through Hillcrest’s Mural Alley and enjoy what the event has to offer. Representatives of the Hillcrest Business Association will attend, along with muralist Jason Gould, local politicians, and spokespeople from AT&T, who funded the project. Visitors are encouraged to speak with the artists, to ask questions about the artistic process used to create the artwork, and to stay for the final result. Refreshing craft cocktails will be served.
