Second IKEA Planning Studio, Pick-Up Point Announced For San Diego County

SAN DIEGO, CA — IKEA is coming to San Diego's South County.

The world's largest furniture retailer announced Tuesday it will open a plan and order point with pick-up location in San Diego. According to IKEA, the new space, slated to open this spring, will offer customers a more convenient way to access the company's home furnishings and design services.

The 2,450-square-foot space will serve as a planning studio where customers can work directly with IKEA specialists to plan and order home furnishing solutions for spaces such as kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms.

Shoppers will be able to choose between delivery or pick-up from the smaller-format location. Online customers will also be able to select IKEA South Bay as their preferred pick-up location during checkout at IKEA.us.

"I'm beyond excited to welcome customers to our new plan and order point in South Bay this spring," said Laura Mellor, market manager for IKEA U.S. "This new store location is perfect for customers who are looking to purchase affordable home furnishings, plan new design projects, and create a home they love."

According to the company, the new format is part of the brand's growth strategy for the U.S.

"IKEA South Bay brings our signature design solutions to the Imperial Beach, Otay Mesa, Chula Vista and the southern San Diego County community — making it more accessible, more convenient, and of course, more affordable," Mellor said.

IKEA has been in the San Diego market for 25 years, since opening the first store in 2000 in San Diego.

In October, IKEA announced that the region's first plan and order point with pick-up location would open this spring in Escondido.

"Escondido will be opening first in spring 2026, followed by our new South Bay location," Zoe Loffreda, loyalty manager for IKEA U.S. told Patch. "A finalized opening date for both locations has not been solidified yet."

IKEA Escondido will be located in the Escondido Promenade at 1200 Auto Park Way in Escondido. IKEA South Bay will be located in Southland Plaza Shopping Center at 585 Saturn Blvd., Suite A, in San Diego.
