Elementary, middle and high schools across San Diego have received threats of campus violence this week, authorities said.

SAN DIEGO, CA — Elementary, middle and high schools across San Diego have received threats of campus violence this week, authorities said.

The "numerous" threats of school violence have "originated from various sources," according to the San Diego Police Department.

"Many of these threats have been repeated and reposted multiple times," a statement from the department said Wednesday. "Currently, there is no substantiated threat."

Police have been in communication with other law enforcement agencies to gather information and investigate the threats, many of which were "vague and contained no specific information," according to the department.

"Numerous local schools were notified, and those schools took additional precautions and initiated their threat protocols," the department said.

Additional patrol officers were sent to the schools that received threats.

The department did not disclose the specific nature of the threats or identify which schools received threats, but said there has been an increase in school shooting threats across the country. A form of these threats involves online posts of "school hit lists" with school names and dates that are constantly changing.

"Any threats are always taken seriously and investigated completely," the department said.
