SAN DIEGO, CA — Critical fire weather conditions are expected Tuesday in parts of San Diego County, prompting the closure of some schools in the region.

Some San Diego area schools were closed due to inclement weather and public safety power shutoffs, according to the San Diego County Office of Education.

A red flag warning is in effect until 4 a.m. Wednesday in the county's mountains and valleys, according to the National Weather Service.

"The safety of students and school staff is of the utmost importance to San Diego County school districts," the County Office of Education said in a statement.

The schools in the following districts were closed Tuesday:

  • Borrego Springs Unified School District
  • Dehesa School District
  • Jamul-Dulzura Union School District
  • Julian Union Elementary School District
  • Julian Union High School District
  • Mountain Empire School District
  • Ramona Unified School District
  • Spencer Valley School District
  • Valley Center-Pauma Unified School District
  • Vallecitos School District
  • Warner Unified School District

Del Lago Academy in Escondido Union High School District and Vivian Banks Charter School in Bonsall Unified School District were also closed due to power shutoffs.
