Student Arrested For Shooting Threats At San Diego Area Middle School

A Bonita Vista Middle School student was arrested for threatening to commit a shooting at the South Bay campus, authorities said.

CHULA VISTA, CA — A Bonita Vista Middle School student was arrested Tuesday for threatening to commit a shooting at the South Bay campus, authorities said.

The Chula Vista Police Department's School Resource Officer Unit received an anonymous tip through the P3 Tips mobile application, according to the department. Messages were posted on Discord, an online chat application mostly used by gamers.

"Thanks to the timely nature of the tip, officers were able to contact the student at their home before the school day commenced," Sgt. Anthony Molina said.

The student was arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats, Molina said. The student's name, age and gender were not released.

"No actual firearms were involved or located during the investigation," Molina said.
