SAN DIEGO, CA — A man was arrested this week in connection with the deadly shooting of a U.S. Navy sailor last summer in San Diego.
Ta'Kari Terell Benness, 20, was taken into custody Wednesday in St. Cloud, Minnesota, on suspicion of fatally shooting Albert Soto, 18, of Queens, New York, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Police responded to reports of gunshots at about 12:49 a.m. Aug. 31 in the area of 9th Avenue and F Street. Soto, who was stationed in San Diego, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, SDPD Lt. Lou Maggi said.

On the night of his death, Soto and his friends got into an altercation with four men inside a nightclub, Maggi said. The groups eventually left the venue via separate exits, but continued arguing outside intermittently for about 30 minutes until gunfire erupted.
The shooter and his group then ran eastbound on F Street, Maggi said.
