Suspected DUI Boater Arrested After Crashing Into USS Midway, Fleeing Scene
After the collision, the vessel fled the scene and was later found near the Coronado Ferry Landing with seven people onboard.
SAN DIEGO, CA — A boater was arrested after crashing into the USS Midway Museum and fleeing the scene Friday, causing tens of thousands of dollars in damage, officials said.
Frank D'Anna, 40, was arrested on suspicion of boating under the influence, hit-and-run, and operating a vessel with a blood-alcohol level over the legal limit of .08, the Port of San Diego Harbor Police Department announced Monday.
The hit-and-run collision was reported at 11:54 a.m. in the Port of San Diego, where the decommissioned aircraft carrier, which is now a museum, was docked along the downtown waterfront.

D'Anna was driving the 65-foot-long private boat, named "Offshore Lifestyle," when it struck the port-side hull of the USS Midway, according to the department. Video of the incident circulated on social media over the weekend.
After the collision, the vessel fled the scene and was later found near the Coronado Ferry Landing with seven people on board. D'Anna was booked into San Diego County Jail and the boat was impounded.

There were no reported injuries due to the incident.
The damage to the museum was estimated at $100,000, Lt. Daniel Moen, of the Port of San Diego Harbor Police Department, told Patch.
