The fifth annual event will feature a bilingual story time, hands-on literacy crafts and activities, a free book giveaway, and more.
SAN DIEGO, CA — First 5 San Diego and The Dr. Seuss Foundation have partnered to bring Talk, Read, Sing Day to San Diego.
The fifth annual event aims to promote the importance of talking, reading and singing to children every day to encourage language and brain development.
The free family-friendly event will feature a bilingual story time of a Dr. Seuss book, read by Channel 93.3's Geena the Latina, as well as hands-on literacy crafts and activities, a family engagement zone with partners, remarks from local leaders and literacy advocates, and special appearances from Cat in the Hat and Odi the Coyote. There will also be a free book giveaway, while supplies last, as well as an opportunity to win tickets to the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance and the New Children's Museum.

"Talk, Read, Sing has always been a cornerstone of our work because it offers families simple, everyday activities that have a profound impact on early brain development and long-term success," said Alethea Arguilez, executive director of First 5 San Diego. "This year we are thrilled to have The Dr. Seuss Foundation join us to support this mission. Their legacy of inspiring young readers aligns perfectly with our goal that all children, ages 0 through 5 are safe, healthy, actively learning, and embraced by loving families and supportive communities."
In 2021, the county officially proclaimed June 8 as Talk, Read, Sing Day in recognition of First 5 San Diego's efforts to promote early literacy and learning.

This year's celebration also marks the launch of "Talk, Read, Sing with Dr. Seuss," a new regional campaign from First 5 San Diego and The Dr. Seuss Foundation. As part of the effort, more than 10,000 books will be provided for the First 5 First Steps home visiting program.
"At The Dr. Seuss Foundation, we believe that every child deserves the chance to grow up with a love of reading and learning," said Jay Hill, executive director of The Dr. Seuss Foundation. "Through this collaboration, we're bringing the whimsical world of Dr. Seuss to life in homes across San Diego County, helping families discover the joy and lifelong impact of talking, reading, and singing together."
Talk, Read, Sing Day will take place from 1:30-3:30 p.m. June 8 at the City Heights/Weingart Library.
