SAN DIEGO, CA — We've rounded up the stories you may have missed over the weekend to prepare you for the week ahead.

But before we jump into Southern California's top stories, residents should expect hot weather start the week before temperatures gradually cool down, according to the National Weather Service.

"Hot inland through Tuesday with high temperatures around 5-8 degrees above normal in the mountains and deserts," NWS San Diego forecasters wrote Monday. "Gradual cooling Wednesday through next weekend. Night and morning low clouds will continue along the coastal areas and far western valleys, spreading slightly further inland later in the week as the marine layer deepens."

In other news, a girl was stabbed to death; four dogs were killed and two pets remained missing after a house fire; two people suspected of multiple carjackings led police on a wild pursuit before getting away; and three missing girls were found after disappearing for days with their babysitter.
