SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA — We've rounded up the stories you may have missed over the holiday weekend to prepare you for the week ahead.

But before we jump into Southern California's top stories, residents should expect hot conditions to continue Monday before temperatures start to cool down, according to the National Weather Service.

"The dangerous heatwave will continue over a large portion of Southern California through Monday, before cooler conditions overspread the region," NWS Los Angeles forecasters wrote Monday. "Temperatures are forecast to be below normal in many areas by late in the upcoming week. Dry conditions are forecast to prevail areawide through the upcoming week."

In other news, multiple brush fires were reported over the weekend amid a record-breaking heat wave in Southern California, including the Line Fire in San Bernardino County. The blaze burned 17,459 acres with 0 percent containment Sunday, triggering evacuations, threatening more than 35,000 structures and injuring firefighters, according to authorities.

Utility workers worked around the clock to restore power as widespread outages were reported during the scorching heat wave.

Dozens more homes impacted by continuing land movement in in Rancho Palos Verdes will lose electricity Monday, further adding to the woes faced by residents in danger of losing their homes entirely due to the landslide.

A toddler died after being locked in a car in soaring temperatures, authorities said.

Police sought information about a series of pellet gun shootings in San Diego. The attacks were being investigated as hate crimes.
