Trade Guns For Gift Cards At Gun Safety Event In San Diego County
All weapons collected will be destroyed, according to the sheriff's office.
SAN MARCOS, CA — San Diego County residents can trade in their unwanted guns for gift cards during a Gun Safety Event Saturday in northern San Diego County.
The San Diego County Sheriff's Office has partnered with the Carlsbad Police Department, Palomar College Police Department, Cal State San Marcos' University Police Department and San Diego County District Attorney's Office to get unwanted guns off the streets.
Community members can trade in their handguns, rifles and shotguns for $100 gift cards, and assault weapons for $200 gift cards.

All weapons collected will be destroyed, according to the sheriff's office. Residents turning in weapons can remain anonymous. Firearms must be in working order. Firearms should also be unloaded and placed in the trunk of the vehicle.
The Gun Safety Event will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at San Marcos Sheriff's Station at 182 Santar Place in San Marcos.
