Victim Of Multi-Fatal Poway Pileup Identified

Roberto Martinez Oros of Ramona was one of five people killed in a fiery pileup on state Route 67 north of San Vicente Reservoir.

SAN DIEGO, CA — Authorities Wednesday publicly identified one of five people killed in a fiery pileup on state Route 67 north of San Vicente Reservoir.

Roberto Martinez Oros of Ramona was heading south on the highway in the eastern reaches of Poway at about 12:30 p.m. Friday when a northbound Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup truck veered into his path at high speed near Iron Mountain Drive and collided with his Honda Civic sedan, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office and Medical Examiner's Office.

Moments later, a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck crashed into the Civic.

Oros, 68, died at the scene along with the other two drivers and two people who were riding in the Tacoma, sheriff's Lt. Colin Hebeler said. The names of the latter four victims are still being withheld pending family notification.

It remains unclear what caused the errant driving that led to the deadly wreck, which sparked a roadside brush fire that spread over about a half- acre before crews were able to extinguish the flames.

"Deputies are still investigating what caused the Silverado to cross into oncoming traffic," Hebeler said. "They are also reviewing video from a passing car that captured (images of) the collision."
