Victims Of 3 San Diego Area Pedestrian Traffic Fatalities Identified

The fatal crashes happened in Pine Valley, Oceanside and Spring Valley.

SAN DIEGO, CA — Authorities have publicly identified three people who were fatally injured in traffic accidents— one a hit-and-run — over a three-day period while walking through various San Diego-area neighborhoods.

The first of the three pedestrian fatalities occurred about 11 a.m. Saturday, when a northbound Ford F-550 pickup truck veered off Pine Valley Boulevard near Rocky Pass and struck 61-year-old Mary Stewart of Pine Valley, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office and California Highway Patrol.

Paramedics took Stewart to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, where she was pronounced dead.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m. the next day, an eastbound vehicle hit 21-year-old Armando Gutierrez of Escondido as he was crossing the street with friends in the 4100 block Oceanside Boulevard in Oceanside, officials said. An ambulance crew took Gutierrez to Tri-City Medical Center, where he died.

About 10:55 p.m. Monday, 63-year-old Darryle Lawler, address unknown, was crossing the street in the 12400 block of state Route 94 in Spring Valley when an eastbound Audi sedan struck him, according to the medical examiner.

Following the fatal impact, the driver pulled over and let out a passenger, who made a 911 to report what had happened as the motorist fled, authorities said. Lawler died at the scene.
