Video Shows Erratic Driver Swerve Across San Diego Freeway, Slam Into SUV

SAN DIEGO, CA — The California Highway Patrol was investigating a crash after shocking video captured an erratic driver swerving across a San Diego freeway and slamming into another vehicle.

The incident happened at 3:18 p.m. Wednesday when the driver of a Subaru struck a tractor-trailer and drove off the roadway and up an embankment on southbound Interstate 805, north of state Route 163, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A video posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, showed the Subaru drive up the embankment and then get back onto the freeway. The vehicle transitioned onto southbound SR-163, swerved across all lanes, struck a Ford Eco Sport, and then rolled over on the freeway.

The driver and passenger of the Subaru, along with the driver of the Ford, a 70-year-old San Diego man, were taken to a hospital for treatment, according to CHP Officer Salvador Castro. The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 29-year-old man from Tecate, Mexico, was not injured.

It was unclear what caused the crash, but alcohol and drugs were not suspected factors in the incident, Castro said.

The crash remains under investigation. Witnesses were asked to contact the CHP San Diego area office at 858-293-6000.
