SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA — We've rounded up the stories you may have missed over the weekend to prepare you for the week ahead.

But before we jump into Southern California's top stories, residents should expect the lingering heat wave to continue Monday before temperatures begin to cool down Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

"Hot conditions will continue over the valleys and mountains into Tuesday with the hottest temperatures occurring today," NWS Los Angeles forecasters wrote Monday. "Widespread cooling is expected Tuesday through Friday. Night through morning low clouds will continue along the coast, with dense fog and low visibilities at times."

In other news, an earthquake rattled the Inland Empire over the weekend. The 4.0-magnitude quake struck about 2 miles south of the Ontario International Airport, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Shaking was reported across Southern California, from Riverside to Laguna Niguel and even in San Diego.

San Diego County health officials are investigating the first-ever case of locally acquired dengue virus. Los Angeles County recently reported five cases of locally contracted dengue this year. Long Beach and Pasadena had their first cases of locally acquired dengue in late 2023.

A store clerk was attacked by a group of about 50 members trying to rob a 7-Eleven store in Orange County. Some members of the violent mob were seen filming the assault-robbery and laughing at the clerk, who had a bloodied face.

Four adults and two juveniles were arrested in connection with a flash-mob style robbery at a mall in Los Angeles, authorities said.

Plus, two horses died after suffering racing injuries at Los Alamitos Race Course, state horse racing officials confirmed. Twelve horses have died from racing or training injuries at Los Alamitos this year, according to the California Horse Racing Board.
