Want More Than Racing From Del Mar? Head Out On Saturdays For Fests With Wine, Beer, More
Organizers are ensuring there's lots of other activities than just horses.

The Del Mar racing season, now in full swing, isn’t just about the horses. Organizers are ensuring there’s lots of other activities too.

The slate for August kicks off at noon Saturday with “The Art of Racing,” when race fans can watch live painting and peruse original works by seven equine and racing artists. There will be music and a wine bar too. Paintings will be available for purchase.

- Aug. 13, 2-5 p.m. – Uncorked Wine Festival, with 100 wines and champagnes available, food vendors and music, all while watching the races from the Stretch Run section. Admission is $65.
- Aug. 20; 2-5 p.m. – Taco & Beer Festival, with more than 50 local and regional brews and seltzers, tequila sampling, eats from local taco shops, live DJs and racing. Admission is $40.
- Aug. 27; 1-5 p.m. – Taste of New Orleans, with authentic Cajun cuisine, from gumbo to beignets, and drink specials, live music, bead vendors and more. Admission is $29.
There’s also Turf Club Fridays, when well-dressed fans – yes, there is a dress code – have access to the club without a membership. Tickets include one admission, two drink tickets and an appetizer buffet.
The season continues through Sept. 11. Admission starts at $8.
