Here are the top stories today in San Diego:

  1. Injured and orphaned baby wildlife need your help for a second chance at life. That’s why the San Diego Humane Society's Project Wildlife program hosts its annual Wildlife Baby Shower each spring. This year’s event will be virtual, and the Society asks the public to donate a gift from the Humane Society's baby registries. "The community's generosity will help give these babies the care they need to grow healthy and strong before they're released back into the wild," said Jon Enyart, the Society's director of wildlife medicine. "Every heating pad, bag of birdseed and can of baby food donated will make a lifesaving difference and we are so grateful for the support." The Society expects the spring arrival of baby bobcats, ducklings, hummingbirds, rabbits, raccoons, and other babies. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (San Diego Patch)
  2. During a traffic stop recently, officers found an ammunition container and several handguns in the car. The driver stated that he had built them himself. Officers found a loaded 9mm ghost gun, a ghost AR15 style assault rifle, as well as narcotics. The driver was arrested, and the Ghost gun Apprehension Team (GAT) responded to the scene. GAT detectives found gun manufacturing equipment, templets, gun manufacturing manuals, over 1,000 rounds of ammunition, more ghost guns, and narcotics at the driver's home. 3. Ninety-nine percent of San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) employees are either fully vaccinated or have received an exemption to the mandate. Employees who have not complied with the mandate have now been terminated. Let Them Breathe said they'd have resources available for those who want to know more about their rights. Last week, we told you about our new favorite non-alcoholic go-to — the refreshingly bitter drinks from our partners at Betera. They’re chef-created from natural botanicals, lightly effervescent and worthy of life beyond “Dry January.” We mentioned that their Ginger-Orange was excellent; we’ve since tried Elderflower-Lime and loved it as well — light and floral with the perfect amount of zing. We're converts.

Enough of you took Betera up on their 15 percent discount on first orders for Patch Daily readers that they’ve extended the offer for another week. Use PATCH15 at checkout. Highly recommended — try Betera here.
