Woman Killed In SDSU Area Wrong Way Crash

A woman driving I-8 near SDSU was struck and killed in a wrong-way collision. Emergency responders extricated the other driver.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A driver died early Thursday after being struck head-on, near Interstate 8 and San Diego State University.

Just after 2:45 a.m., the woman was driving eastbound on the I-8 freeway, just east of College Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

She died at the scene as a result of her injuries sustained in the collision, the CHP reported.

Her identity was not immediately available, pending notification of next of kin.

Emergency crews had to free the other motorist from his crumpled car, which had crashed down a roadside embankment. Paramedics then took him to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The wrong-way driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI, OnSceneTV reported.

The collision left the eastbound side of the freeway blocked in the area for a time. All lanes along the stretch were open again as of 6 a.m., according to the CHP.
