Over 100 firefighters responded to the blaze early Friday morning, authorities said.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — At least 45 San Francisco residents were displaced after a fire at an apartment building in the city's Tenderloin District, authorities said.
Nobody was injured in the blaze, according to the San Francisco Fire Department. Several people, along with two cats, were rescued from the building by fire crews, authorities said.

It's unclear what started the fire. Fire officials say the blaze at 50 Golden Gate Avenue ignited on the sixth floor of the apartment building sometime after 3 a.m.
Despite an aggressive response from fire crews, the blaze spread through the sixth floor, attic and roof of the building, authorities said, prompting a three-alarm response.

More than 100 firefighters and 50 fire apparatus were sent out to the scene, authorities said.
"Firefighters faced challenges due to the building's old construction, which included multiple light wells, lath and plaster construction, and heavy fire conditions on the upper floors," the SFFD said in a statement on social media.
The number of displaced residents is expected to change, authorities said.
Fire crews will remain at the scene for the next several hours to conduct overhaul operations, authorities said. The SFFD asks that people avoid the area in the meantime.
