Bay Area School Assistant Charged With Sexually Assaulting Minor: DA

The defendant is facing charges of continuous sexual abuse and multiple counts of meeting a minor for lewd purposes, prosecutors said.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A Bay Area teacher's assistant has been charged with sexually assaulting a minor, prosecutors said.

The assault happened between 2015 and 2018, according to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office.

Prosecutors say Calvin Tran, 36, sexually assaulted a student various times between that period, including at Francisco Middle School.

Tran was taken into custody on Nov. 13 in connection with the crime, authorities said. He has been charged with four counts of meeting with a minor for lewd purposes, committing lewd acts upon a child, continuous sexual abuse, oral copulation of a person under 14, aggravated sexual assault of a child and forcible oral copulation of a minor 14 or older, according to prosecutors.

Tran is due in court for arraignment on Dec. 3, prosecutors said. He is currently being held without bail, with prosecutors citing him as a public safety risk.
