SAN JOSE, CA — Bay FC played Orlando Pride at Inter&Co. Stadium in Florida Saturday, and the match ended with a 1-1 draw. The tie score was a turnaround for the Bay Area's women's professional soccer team, ending their consecutive four-game losses.

“It was an exciting game that could’ve gone either way today,” said Albertin Montoya, Bay FC head coach. “We have a lot to be proud of coming and playing in Orlando, the first point we’ve had against Orlando. I thought our players showed a lot of fight, played really well and created some good opportunities. The energy and mentality was exactly what we asked of them.”

Bay FC forward Racheal Kundananji scored in the first half, and Orlando Pride scored their goal in the second half, with 20 minutes remaining in the match.

"[We will] carry the positive things that we did in this game to the next game," said Kundananji.

Bay FC still has the end-of-season playoffs in mind, needing three points to get there. The Orlando match earned the team one of those points.

"This is a motivation," she said. "Even grabbing that point wasn't easy. I am sure most of the people weren't even expecting us to get even a single point, but we did that, so I feel like we are now getting there to get the maximum three points in the next game."

Standings-wise, Bay FC ranks 12 out of the 14 National Women's Soccer League teams this regular season. Orlando Pride is ranked sixth in the standings, with the top-ranked team currently being Kansas City Current.

Bay FC's next two matches are at home, with the first happening this Sunday against NWSL's New York team Gotham FC. At the match, the club will celebrate Latino Heritage Night "with special activations and giveaways celebrating the Bay Area and Northern California’s vibrant Latino communities at the onset of Hispanic Heritage Month," according to Bay FC staff.
