CA Thief Steals Olympic Skater Marissa Castelli's Costumes

Marissa Castelli, a national champion in figure skating, saw more than $2,000 worth of items stolen from her rental car.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- Marissa Castelli, an Olympic figure skater, saw more than $2,000 worth of items stolen from her rental car in San Francisco this week. The San Francisco Chronicle reported the national figure skating champion was dining in Japantown with her family on Monday when the crime happened.

"Castelli said most of the stolen items can be replaced, but she is devastated that two ice skating dresses, custom-made and worth more than $1,000 apiece, were taken. One is dark blue, the other is sparkly and light peach. She said there’s no way they can be used by anybody else, because everybody in the know would spot them immediately as hers," the Chronicle reported.

Castelli later shared her disappointing news on Twitter with her fans, stating that she hopes to find her belongings.

Castelli is apparently one of many victims of car burglaries. Thefts are reportedly high in San Francisco, CBS reported.

"The burglary occurred just hours after SFPD announced a city-wide crackdown on thefts," the news station said. "Authorities say car burglaries in the city have increased by 24 percent in the last year."

The Chronicle reported that Castelli, 27, was in the Bay Area this weekend for the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in San Jose. The Rhode Island native won the bronze medal at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia, with her partner, Mervin Tran. She is also a two-time national champion.
