Clashes With Police Turn Violent At SF Civic Center Following Protest
Police had violent clashes with protesters Monday evening near the Civic Center after the end of rally and march against ICE.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Police had violent clashes with protesters Monday evening near the Civic Center after a rally and march against the Trump administration's immigration crackdown ended, according to multiple videos shared on social media.
Hundreds of people rallied and marched through San Francisco's Mission District on Monday evening to protest the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, but some smaller groups of protesters were met by police at Market and Fell streets who told them to disperse as the main march wound down.
Dozens of protesters were told over loudspeaker that they were unlawfully assembling and officers began to surround groups of people. Protesters could be heard taunting officers and police could be seen shoving people and hitting them with batons. Images of what appears to be tear gas affecting those assembled have also been shared on social media.

Shouting "Whose streets? Our streets!" and carrying signs and banners reading things like "No hate. No fear. Immigrants are welcome here," the crowd moved up Mission Street to the sound of chants and drumbeats.
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie and city officials on Monday announced preparations for more protests after police arrested 148 people Sunday night when an anti-US Immigration and Customs Enforcement demonstration turned violent on city streets.
