SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A dog is missing, and its 65-year-old owner was left critically hurt after a suspect attacked them both in San Francisco, police said.

Police say the man was with his dog, Charlotte Rose, in the area of Post and Leavenworth streets around 3:32 p.m. on Sunday when they were assaulted.

The suspect briefly interacted with the man before kicking his dog, prompting it to run away southbound on Leavenworth Street, according to the San Francisco Police Department.

The suspect also attacked the man, leaving him with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, police said.

Investigators with the SFPD's Strategic Investigation Unit are now trying to find Charlotte Rose. The dog is microchipped, according to the SFPD, who say anyone with information on Charlotte Rose's whereabouts should contact authorities at 415-575-4444.
