NORTHERN CALIFORNIA — As we head into the new week that begins a new year, we've rounded up the stories you may have missed on Saturday and Sunday to prepare you for Monday.

But before we jump into the top stories across Northern California, residents should know that flooding and rainfall will give way to cold temperatures and frost advisories in some areas, the National Weather Service said. Expect patchy fog in the morning hours and sunny conditions, with showers returning toward the end of the week.

This weekend, former President Jimmy Carter— humanitarian and diplomat — died Sunday at his home in Plains, Georgia, according to his son James E. Carter III. He was 100.

In Northern California, police worked to reach a peaceful resolution with a woman barricaded for over 16 hours in Daly City. A woman, brandishing a kitchen knife, was contained in a home where she remained Sunday evening.

At least three BART officers and one civilian were injured in a multi-vehicle crash in Oakland on Saturday. A photo posted to X showed at least two police vehicles with significant damage following the crash.

Also, it’s been 10 years since a man dressed as Santa Claus robbed a bank during the citywide SantaCon pub crawl, where hundreds of revelers dress up as Santa every year. Police still have no leads for the bank robbing St. Nick, who disappeared into a crowd of Santa Clauses and was never seen again.

Finally, one lucky California resident won over $1.2 billion in the most recent Mega Millions draw. According to lottery officials, a ticket that matched all six numbers in Friday's drawing was sold in California.
