Highway 101 Shooting Snarls Bay Area Traffic: Update
Police said a man walking on the highway was armed when an officer fired on him.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Police in San Francisco shot a man walking on U.S. Highway 101 Thursday, snarling traffic in the Mission and Potrero areas.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, the man was armed when an officer fired on him.
At approximately 11:19 a.m. Thursday, police officers and San Francisco Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a report of a man walking on U.S. Highway 101 northbound near Cesar Chavez Street, the San Francisco Police Department announced.

“While on scene, SFPD made contact with the subject near the Caesar Chavez off-ramp. During the encounter, the subject produced an edged weapon, and an officer-involved shooting occurred,” the department announced in a written statement. “One SFPD officer was involved.”
Officers at the scene rendered aid to the man after he was shot. Paramedics then transported him to a local hospital. The man’s medical condition is unknown at this time, police said.

No one else was injured in the incident.
All lanes are now open, California Highway Patrol announced Thursday at 3:36 p.m.
The investigation remains open and active, according to the SFPD.
