'Impressive' ​Atmospheric River; Man Kills Mother: PD; Mpox In NorCal

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA — As we head into the new week, we've rounded up the stories you may have missed Saturday and Sunday to prepare you for Monday.

But before we jump into Northern California's top stories, residents should expect chilly conditions with mostly clear and sunny skies to start off the week in the San Francisco Bay Area, followed by an atmospheric river that could bring heavy rain to the region, according to the National Weather Service.

There is a coastal flood advisory until 4 p.m. Monday along the San Francisco and San Pablo bays. Until 8 a.m. Tuesday, there is a freeze warning for interior portions of the North Bay and Central Coast, and a frost advisory for the Santa Cruz coast and Watsonville areas.

"Chilly and quiet Monday and Tuesday. Strong atmospheric river to begin impacting the North Bay by Wednesday with rainfall lasting into the weekend," NWS San Francisco forecasters wrote Monday. "Potential for flood impacts in the North Bay and northern portions of the Bay Area by late week. More widespread rainfall expected by late Friday into the weekend."

In other news, authorities arrested a Bay Area man suspected of stabbing his wife and fatally stabbing his mother this weekend, police said.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the man, identified as Frank McMillan, 63, stabbed his wife at least once before causing a self-inflicted stab wound to himself, according to police. Following his surgery, police said McMillan spontaneously confessed to killing his mother before the stabbings.

Deputies arrested a Bay Area man suspected of forcing his way into a home and killing the victim, sheriff's officials said. Adrian Yanez, 44, was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of murder and burglary.

Plus, the nation's first-known case of a more aggressive strain of mpox was detected in Northern California, officials said. A patient was treated for clade I mpox in San Mateo County, according to the California Department of Public Health. They are isolating at home and recovering.
