Man Clinging To Rock In Lake Merced Rescued By Firefighters

The man went into the lake after losing a remote-controlled boat, according to SFFD Capt. Jonathan Baxter.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - A man was hospitalized for exposure after he was rescued from the cold waters of Lake Merced on Saturday evening, San Francisco firefighters said.

The man went into the lake after losing a remote-controlled boat, according to Capt. Jonathan Baxter, a spokesman for the San Francisco Fire Department. He was found clinging to rocks after several people heard cries for help and called 911, Baxter said.

The water at the time was 57 degrees, according to Google Weather.

Lake Merced is a freshwater body in the southwest part of the city, near the San Francisco Zoo. It borders TPC Harding Park Golf Course and the Olympic Club Golf Course.
