Man Headbutted Woman At SF Bar During Argument Before Stabbing Several People: DA

The defendant is now facing five counts of assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of mayhem, prosecutors said.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A man has been charged in connection with a mass stabbing at a San Francisco bar in October that left several people injured, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors say Joncarlo Gutierrez, 32, headbutted a woman during an argument at a bar in the 3900 block of Geary Avenue on Oct. 24.

When a security guard tried to intervene, Gutierrez pulled out a boxcutter knife, the San Francisco District Attorney's Office said in a statement Thursday.

He then slashed the woman and four other patrons at the bar who tried to intervene, prosecutors said. Four people were taken to local hospitals, while one other person was treated at the scene, authorities said, adding that nobody's injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Gutierrez left the bar after the stabbings, but left behind his driver's license and hat, authorities said. He was arrested earlier this week after plainclothes officers with the San Francisco Police Department located him in the area of Richland and Mission Street.

The 32-year-old is now facing five counts of assault with a deadly weapon, not a firearm, and two counts of mayhem, prosecutors said. The complaint also accuses Gutierrez of personally inflicting great bodily harm on the victims, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors say they requested he be jailed without bail "because of the public safety risk he poses." But a judge set Gutierrez's bail at $50,000, and he is currently out of custody, prosecutors said.
