​Man With Knife Holds Police At Bay For Hours In San Francisco

Multiple units assisted by the Hostage Negotiation Team tried to engage the man to obtain a peaceful resolution.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A man armed with a knife held police at bay for about four hours while they tried to get him to surrender Saturday in the Crocker-Amazon neighborhood of southern San Francisco.

The incident began unfolding about 4:30 p.m. in the first block of Lapham Way, not far from the Cow Palace.

Officers were called to a residence where a man with a knife was sitting in a vehicle in front of the home, police said. Multiple units assisted by the Hostage Negotiation Team tried to engage the man to obtain a peaceful resolution.

When the man began driving away, a chase ensued and multiple patrol vehicles were hit, police said.
The man's vehicle came to a stop in the area of Naples Street and Geneva Avenue, and he surrendered about 8:30 p.m.
