Muni Invites All To Tackle Its Strava 'Worm' Route In An SF Neighborhood

To celebrate Transit Month, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency is offering a "Muni Worm" challenge on Strava.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — September is Transit Month, and one way to celebrate is to tackle a Strava route resembling Muni's worm-esque logo, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency announced on X Monday.

On Strava, a sports app company with headquarters in San Francisco, one can find a slightly-over-10-miles "Muni Worm" in the Outer Richmond neighborhood. Created by Strava user Taylor Lee, the route goes from 47th Avenue to 29th Avenue width-wise and from Geary Boulevard to Fulton Street length-wise. The route has an elevation of 1,530 feet, according to Strava.

Those looking for a shorter option can go for the "M" portion of the route, which is approximately three miles, says the SFMTA team.

Maybe you're in fall marathon prep mode, counting down the weeks until the Chicago Marathon (Oct. 12), the New York Marathon (Nov. 2) or the California International Marathon (Dec. 7), and looking for something fun to incorporate into your training. Or perhaps you simply enjoy a creative challenge and are up for a unique hike or run.

Regardless, the SFMTA is offering the route throughout Transit Month, and it's certainly one that's deserving of Strava "kudos."
