Police Shoot, Injure Man With Aggressive Dog In San Francisco

The dog fled from the area and then came back and bit an officer, according to police. Animal control arrived and took the dog.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Police in San Francisco shot and injured a man with an aggressive dog on Sunday afternoon, the department said.

Just before 4:30 p.m., officers were flagged down in the area of Market and O'Farrell streets by someone who said a large off-leash dog bit them and was continuing to show aggression to others.

Police found the dog and its owner and a shooting occurred.

According to the department, "While officers were attempting to detain the subject and secure the dog, an officer-involved shooting occurred."

The department did not give any more information about the shooting except to say that the man who was shot was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

The first dog-bite victim took themselves to the hospital, according to police.

The officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the District Attorney's Office, SFPD Internal Affairs, and the Department of Police Accountability. If the man who was shot was unarmed, the shooting may be investigated by the California Department of Justice as well.

The Police Department will hold a town hall about the shooting within ten days.
