On The Road To The Oscars: The 2024 SFFILM Awards Night

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — An awards stop on the road to the Oscars! SFFILM, the non-profit organization that helms the San Francisco International Film Festival, recently held its 2024 Awards Night, honoring Demi Moore, Jason Reitman, Denis Villeneuve and Malcom Washington.
The star-studded annual fundraiser in the San Francisco Bay Area celebrates exceptional artists in recognition of their extraordinary achievements in film. SFFILM Director of Programming Jessie Fairbanks echoed the remarkable feat of this year’s award recipients. (Check out photos from the event below.)
“We are so proud to honor this group of individuals as we close out 2024,” adding “their crafts and artistry elevates the cinematic experience and reminds us why we collectively love the power of film.”

“Denis, Demi, Malcolm and Jason are all intrepid, tenacious and imaginative creatives,” according to Fairbanks.
Moore — who recently received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in musical or comedy for her role of a fading celebrity in the body horror hit, “The Substance” — was presented with the Maria Manetti Shrem Award for Acting. Past honorees include Margot Robbie, Oscar Isaac, Nicolas Cage, Amy Adams, Robin Williams, Kate Winslet, Richard Gere and Harrison Ford.

Reitman — who directed and co-wrote this year’s biopic hit, “Saturday Night” — was presented with the Nion McEvoy & Leslie Berriman Award for Storytelling. Previous recipients include Sarah Polley, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Aaron Sorkin and Lulu Wang.
Villeneuve — who directed this year’s sci-fi hit, “Dune: Part Two” — was honored with the Irving M. Levin Award for Film Direction, an award given in memory of the founder of the San Francisco International Film Festival. Greta Gerwig, Jane Campion, Chloe Zhao and Ryan Coogler have all received the award previously, among other famed filmmakers.
Washington, director of the critically acclaimed drama film, “The Piano Lesson,” was honored with the George Gund III Award for Virtuosity. Among past recipients of the SFFILM award are Stephanie Hsu and Cord Jefferson.
The 2024 SFFILM Awards Night was held at the Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture on Dec. 9. Reportedly, the fundraiser raised a record-breaking $500,000.
