San Francisco Police Sued Over Killing Of Unarmed Man

The mother of Keita O'Neil, who was shot and killed by a rookie police officer, is suing the department.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- A lawsuit was filed Tuesday against the San Francisco Police Department over a shooting earlier this month that left an unarmed car-jacking suspect dead. The mother of Keita O'Neil filed the civil rights lawsuit, claiming he was wrongfully shot, according to an Associated Press article.

San Francisco police said officers responded to a report of a robbery on the morning of Dec. 1 when O'Neil allegedly assaulted a California State Lottery employee and stole the person's van.

Officer Christopher Samayoa shot O'Neil, who later died at a nearby hospital. Associated Press reported the shooting happened days after Samayoa graduated from the police academy.
