Spay Neuter Fees Waived for Adoptions Through the Month
Contra Costa County Animal Services is waiving fees for dogs and cats for the rest April hoping to encourage adoptions.

PINOLE, CA- Contra Costa County Animal Services is waiving its spay and neuter fees for dogs and cats for the rest of the month to encourage adoption, a department spokesman said today.
The fees will be refunded starting today until April 30 by the county department, which runs shelters in Martinez and Pinole.
"Typically this is the highest price of the adoption process," department spokesman Steve Burdo said. "We're trying to do everything we can to place animals in happy and safe homes."

Throughout February, the department stopped taking in animals except for those that were sick, injured, stray or potentially dangerous due to high volumes in its shelters.
The situation as of now at the shelters is not as dire as it was then, but, Burdo said, "space is something that municipal shelters are always up against."
